Title Formatting: Because I want to make everyone's life easier.
None of this is mandatory, but for the sake of making everything easy to find, I'm going to suggest some basic title formatting in this thread. No matter what board you're posting in (unless you're staff and posting a stickied thread), it's a good idea to specify what exactly your new thread is about. In brackets at the front of the title, you should put what sort of genre your post goes under. For example, if you're posting song lyrics, your title should look like this:
[Lyrics] In a Moment - Mutiny Within
(note: A post like this can be a song you like or a song you wrote. Just be sure to credit and link to a youtube video if it's not yours.)
If you have a question or survey for your fellow users, format your title like so:
[Survey] Which do you think came first, the chicken or the egg?
When posting in the story boards, specify based on board. For example, if you're posting a fanfic, format like so:
[Dragon Age 2] (Fenris/FemHawke) Back to Tevinter
If you're posting in the Original Story board, format like this instead:
[Horror/Romance] Do Stories Like This Even Exist?
Title Caps: When should I use them?
Title caps look nice, but can be confusing. For starters, when the hell should they be used? Based on experience (because I sure as hell haven't looked it up), title caps are great when you actually have a title. Not a thread title, but a title of a story, book, song, artwork, poem, game, etc. They're also great when your actual thread title doesn't follow the rules of a grammatical sentence (think newspaper headlines). Confused? Me too. Here are some examples to clear it up a bit.
When to use title caps:
[Story] Since This Is a Title of a Story, You Should Use Title Caps
[Art] Leonardo da Vinci - Virgin and Child with St. Anne
[Lyrics] In a Moment - Mutiny Within
[News] Cow Stuck in Tree, Police Stumped
When NOT to use title caps:
[Survey] Do you like purple paperclips, or yellow ones?
[Question] I've got a weird mole on my ass, should I be worried?
[Discussion] Let's talk about how shitty the new Spyro games are.
Remember: When using title caps, don't capitalize articles, prepositions or conjunctions.
Trivia: Title caps can also be called title case. Its cousin, which we use in everyday writing, is called sentence case.
